Task 5: Video Reflections - Designing Dream Machines
Designing Dream Machines is a documentary where it follows the life of Richard Seymour and Dick Powel for just under a year. It highlights many things from the initial brainstorming passing through to the prototyping of a product and eventually the presentation of it.
Its something different that you see normally especially shows that things in the real world is totally different to what we have been doing in class so far and i think i like the way its heading. A lot of the mental thoughts like frustration and time management is really whats its like and i know for a fact that its true. I really do like how it reflects how the course is going and trying to motivate us for the long run.

Project 3: Upcycling Unwanteds Rationale
The name of my upcycled product is Frammock, its a product where anyone can use and use it well.
The material i have chosen is extension cables that have died and have no use no more. There is so much in the world where it just gets thrown out. Think about it!
I've also chosen to use weaves and knots so that no further ecological impacts will be caused from manufacture. Its also practical and easy to move to wherever u want it to be.

Task 5: Video Reflections - Annie Leonard
Immediately Annie Leonard has given me some insight into what is going on with the whole process of products we buy, in which she describes her story of stuff where she begins with the whole process as being of a linear form consisting of "Extraction", ""Production", "Distribution", "Consumption" and "Disposal". Although her main points are between the lines of these processes. Such as her example of the $4.99 radio, where people have scarified their future, earth's future, cleanliness of the air, had all suffered just to get the price of the radio down to $4.99.
I hadn't known about the end result of the process but Annie has shown that 99% of the things we buy gets trashed such that 1% is kept and used after 6 months. It was really surprising to see such figures. Considering this, one way to help is to use renewable energy to reduce consumption then also change the linear system into a circular system consisting of equity and sustainability.

Project 2: Postal Presents Rationale
Project 2 was a different but interesting one. I tried to design something that could be multifunctional but also has a main purpose. My design's main purpose is to be a Cookbook Holder with an additional stand. It covers the book as oil or other ingredients may ruin the book. I chose a transparent colour for the shield and stand but a frosted look for the base so it would not look out of place in the kitchen or whereever it may be stored.
The acrylic was my choice because of its sturdiness and also because it is washable.

Task 5: Video Reflections - Ross Lovegrove
The Love of form...
Ross Lovegrove shares his experience and knowledge where his design are only interested in the organic forms. His philosophy of 'fat-free' design, has been integrated with his designs such as the Ty Nant bottle, where it is no commonly known drink bottle but something unique and interesting with the whole bottle having an organic form.
Ross gives his insight towards the future of design, where unique designs such as the section where he redefines cars are all wrong, where he can combine greenhousing and also innovation inside the cars. As students ourselves, we wonder how are we going to pass the next task but the real question is how are we going to redevelop the ever evolving world in the near future. Ross has given us the insight to this answer.

Task 5: Video Reflections - Yves Behar
Yves Behar questions those things that people usually take for granted, such as the num lock key on the keyboard and says "does it really need to be there?". This designs really does show and make his products more user friendly such as "the leaf lamp" where he gives some choice on the lamp where you can adjust the "feeling" of the lamp with a touch of a button.
He emphasises that objects can tell many stories, such that as designers will need to predit and what story your product will tell. Even though that the product may do all this and that but we need to take into consideration that do we actually need it or is it just a novalty item.
I realise that designing a product may not be all about the looks and functionality of the product but also how userfriendly it is and also if it can be made unique to each and every person in the world. So after watching this i would try and "GET SOME"

Task 5: Video Reflections - Don Norman
Don Norman's talk was quite interesting. He's main focus is to try to understand what beauty is about. Some example's he talks about is Allesi's Gold Plated Juicer, where people don't even use it for juicing but to keep it for a design point of view, a conversation starter. Also in the same picture the knife, where he talks about the shape, balance, and how sharp it is.
He also talks about things being sub-conscious to us, such as where you do a search in google and the amount of result pages are shown at the bottom with the amount of letter "O". You don't really pay attention to it but its always been there as a sub-conscious effect.
Don mentions that, when in the workplace, if the environment is a fun, happy or anything that is a positive experience, it affects us. It allows us think out of the box without knowing it.

Task 5: Video Reflections - David Kelley
David Kelley has shown much insight to the future of design, where his presentations show designs that is more focused around humans rather than the hardware. He does much research into what consumers want and focuses more towards it.
The Prada store in New York, such that the whole store has been redesigned suitable for what consumers would want. A few examples would be the staff devices in the store where products can be scanned in and the products would be shown on a screen wherever in the store. Another example would be the Liquid Crystal display changing room, where in a touch of a button would changed the whole clear glass would go "dark". These few examples just show how David has redesigned the way that consumers shop and enhance their buying power.
Watching this video has shown me how fast technology is growing and us as designers must keep up with the world.

Task 1: Shape of a Scent
Our group had the scent of Salvatore Ferragamo Incanto,
we defined the smell as a definite feminine scent where it
had a floral and natural smell. The scent gave off a mysterious
feel where the female would be a distinctive one.
First Design:
2nd and Final Design:
I liked the final design because it gave the impression it was a smooth feel whilst combining the mysterious and nature smell.
